The New York Jets have shaken up their quarterback depth chart, including the release of the player with the best name in the NFL.

On X/Twitter, the New York Jets announced that they have signed quarterbacks Andrew Peasley and Colby Suits and defensive back/special teams returner Brandon Codrington. They have also waived quarterback PeeWee Jarrett (the best name in the league), linebacker Tre Jenkins and defensive lineman Manny Jones.

Jarrett’s first name is actually “Byron.” He played his college football at the Ellsworth and Iowa Central community colleges before transferring to the Division II West Florida Argonauts program, where Jarrett played for two seasons.

Jarrett appeared in one game for West Florida last season, a 31-10 loss to the Florida A&M Rattlers. In that contest, Jarrett threw for 134 yards, a touchdown and one interception.

As for Peasley, he played college football at Utah State from 2018 to 2021 before transferring to Wyoming, where he spent the next two years. Peasley went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft before signing with the Jets.

The Jets’ quarterback depth chart currently consists of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, free agent signing Tyrod Taylor and rookie Jordan Travis, whom New York drafted in round five.

New York Jets Aim To End 14-Year Playoff Drought In 2024

The arrival of Rodgers increased the expectations for the long-suffering Jets in 2023, but their season essentially ended once the future Hall of Famer suffered a season-ending Achilles tear just minutes into his New York debut.

New York hasn’t qualified for the postseason since 2010, the longest active drought in football. If Rodgers stays healthy, then the Jets will certainly re-emerge as a Super Bowl contender in the crowded AFC.

The NFL is expected to release the 2024 regular season schedule by some point next week, so we’ll soon find out who Rodgers and company will open their season against.
